At YFC, we envision a safe and vibrant Lake County where everyone can realize their full potential. Since 1962, our mission has remained steadfast: "opening doors to mental healthcare so people can cope, heal, and thrive."

While our signature program provides affordable, accessible and exceptional clinical services for people from all walks of life, our new programs seek to increase access to mental healthcare in new and exciting ways.

As we continue to grow, we are seeking passionate and committed individuals to serve on our Board of Directors and help us transform the landscape of Lake County’s mental healthcare system.

Position Overview:

YFC is looking for passionate, dedicated individuals to bring invaluable energy and insights to YFC through board service. This opportunity is perfect for those who are curious about the rapidly evolving mental healthcare landscape, excited about sharing YFC’s impact with our community, and willing to connect YFC with people and resources that can help us better serve our community.

By sharing ideas, building partnerships, and championing our cause, board service at YFC offers the opportunity to make mental health care more accessible and impactful for those who need it most.

We are especially interested in connecting with individuals who bring the following perspectives:

  • Facilities management/operations
  • Human resources
  • Marketing
  • Public sector experience
  • Healthcare providers

Key Responsibilities:

As a YFC board member, your responsibilities will include:

  • Attending bi-monthly meetings and contributing to discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Serving on one of three committees (Internal Affairs, External Affairs and Governance) and providing oversight and guidance on organizational programs and resources.
  • Engaging in fundraising efforts to sustain YFC’ financial health and fuel its growth.
  • Leveraging professional and/or personal networks to help expand outreach, partnerships and visibility.
  • Collaborating with other board members and staff to achieve a shared vision.

Requirements:

  • Passion for YFC’s mission and connection to Lake County, Illinois.
  • Interest in community mental health, health equity, workforce development, human services/nonprofit work.
  • Ability to devote 4 hours/month to board activities.
  • Availability to serve a term of three years.

The YFC Board of Directors is a volunteer, non-compensated position but offers valuable experience in nonprofit governance, leadership and health equity work. Board members will gain exposure to the evolving mental healthcare landscape, have the opportunity to drive innovation and change, and strengthen YFC’s impact in Lake County.
